General Practitioners

Dr. John James

Dr. James is the founder, and principal, of the Lejeune practice and has been a family physician for several years. A fellow of the College of General Practitioners, with post-graduate qualifications in Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Paediatrics, Dr James was inspired by paediatrician and geneticist , Dr Jerome Lejeune, in whose honour the practice is named, and whom Dr. James had the pleasure of meeting on several occasions, to see a family medical practice return to a more traditional mode of primary health care delivery, with an emphasis on personalized attention, and continuity of care.  Dr. James is married, with ten children, and he and his wife, Julie, have been deeply involved with both educational initiatives to assist families, and community activism directed towards ensuring that human life, from conception until natural death, is protected. Lejeune works with Pregnancy Counselling Australia, a 24-hour national telephone support service, to assist and support mothers who are finding their pregnancies, for whatever reason, arduous, in an effort to ensure that both mother and unborn baby, flourish.  In his other life, Dr James enjoys involvement in local and national politics, watching ( and playing )sport , especially his beloved Wallabies, and has been involved in local sports associations, particularly Eastwood District Rugby Union.

Dr. Lynne Bastock

I graduated from the University of NSW and did my residency at Sydney and Westmead Hospitals. I achieved my Diploma in Child Health and have had further training in obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. I’m interested in all aspects of general practice. I participate in shared care with Westmead Hospital. In my spare time, I spend time with my family, catch up with friends, swimming and gardening.

Dr. Michael Smith

Dr. Michael Smith joined Lejeune in March 2017, having finished a 16-month stint at another high-quality family practice in Riverstone which saw out his final months as a trainee GP. Attaining his Fellowship in the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in February 2016, Dr Smith further developed skills in palliative and aged care, skin cancer medicine and surgery, chronic disease management and child health.   In July 2017, Dr Smith was one of 3 doctors to help start a new model of community palliative care in Western Sydney with the private company, Silver Chain.   He has branched out into surgical assisting in orthopaedics (hand and lower limb) and was part of the team that performed the first robotic total knee replacement at Sydney Adventist Hospital.  He has found Lejeune to be a natural fit for his desire to work in traditional family practice, with a commitment to the aged, the vulnerable and a respect for life.

Dr. Susan Tugwell

Dr. Susan Tugwell will be consulting on a Monday and Thursday, She will also be visiting various Aged Care facilities on a Tuesday.

Dr. Janice (Jung-Yeon) Ku

She has completed her internship and residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She has gained additional experience from working at St Vincent’s Hospital, Canterbury Hospital, and Sydney Hospital prior to starting her general practice training. As part of her post-graduate studies, Dr. Ku completed Masters of Medicine at Sydney University and published articles in medical journals. She also completed further training in Reproductive & Sexual Health through Family Planning Alliance of Australia, and she completed a Diploma in Child Health through Sydney Children’s Hospital Network. Dr. Ku attained her Fellowship with the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2016. She joined Lejeune Family Practice as the practice model falls in line with her love for ‘the cradle to grave’ medicine. She is an approved provider of shared antenatal care with Northern Sydney Network. She loves seeing a diverse range of patients.

Dr. Alan Ng

Alan Ng is an English and Cantonese speaking medical doctor who graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2016 with Distinction.
